6 October @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Sanctuary Cinema Club present films from across the world that highlight the asylum seeker and refugee experience: the factors that drive people from their homes, the hazardous journeys they make and the problems they encounter in host countries. Some of the films shown are comedies, some family films, but all have something to tell us while they entertain us.
Sanctuary Cinema Club was set up by a group of English teachers working with asylum seekers. The group has been established for three years and welcomes everyone into membership. They have shown films across the district and now are trialling a monthly film club at the Gregson. Members help choose, market and screen films.
Please note that 7-7.30pm the room will be open and this is an informal way to meet people ahead of the screening. The film will begin at 7.30pm and you’re welcome to come along at any point between 7-7.30pm.
What film are Sanctuary Cinema Club playing next?
Well that’s a secret! But members of our cinema mailing list (click to join) are emailed film titles at the beginning of every month. We also advertise all screenings in the centre on our Cinema Noticeboard on the main staircase and give clues as to what we’re screening on our socials.
The cinema is a non commercial cinema room meaning we can only share film titles in this way – true to the Secret Cinema experience, if you’d rather we kept it a secret, just rock up and see what’s on. If you’d like to get in touch with the club organisers please email: sanctuarycinemaclub@gmail.com or call 07852762060.
This event is part of the Gregson’s Wellbeing Programme. Made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Community Fund, this programme allows us to collaborate with brilliant local organisations to deliver targeted projects for the benefit of our community.
