Our community led charity has the honour of preserving and developing Lancaster’s oldest community hub – The Gregson Centre. Built in 1889 to ‘Serve the needs of the people’, our mission ‘for people to be in the driving seat of their community events and cultural experiences’ builds on this and the unique culture that has developed here over decades – as a responsive, grassroots community organisation.

This is your centre. It is owned and run by the community. We survived the pandemic because of community support. It has been tough. But since the community ‘take back’ the centre is flourishing.

Now, the Gregson:

Is home to 70 community groups, charities and CIC’s
Enables accessible creative & community activity everyday. We hold 3,500 events per year.
Is a safe space, and a hub for wellbeing – our needs-led programme delivers activities that respond to community needs such as social isolation.

Community activism and philanthropy are the foundations on which the Gregson is built. We receive no regular public subsidy, our community is our main funder. The Gregson has only ever been what the people around it make it. It will always need the support of those who are able to give to ensure it thrives. It costs £25,000 every month to keep the centre running. By becoming a supporter from just £3 a month, our collective efforts will keep the centre going and enable us to do more for and with the community.
