Lancaster Vocal Improvisation

Age Range: 18+
Ability Level: All abilities
Upcoming Sessions: 22nd April, 20th May, 27th May, 3rd June

Share simple improvisation structures for making music together using your voice in various ways. In this form of improvisation anything goes – there is no right or wrong and all contributions are valued.

This strand of improvisation was originated by the singer Bobby McFerrin and is often called Circle Song or Collaborative Vocal Improvisation. It can be used by large or small groups or individuals. It’s for anyone who enjoys or wants to try making stuff up, expanding creativity and confidence, or using their voice.

The emphasis is on play and enjoyment, and participants are welcome to bring their own ideas into the mix.

Previous experience of improvisation, singing or music is not necessary.

We hope to seed a community of vocal improvisers in Lancaster.

Sessions involve a movement warm up so it’s advisable to wear loose comfortable clothing and bring water.
