Our History, AGM and revealing plans for the next three years

PAST: Built in 1889 to ‘serve the needs of the people’, the Gregson has a fascinating history as a community asset in Lancaster. Inspired by archeologist and child of the Gregson, Molly Pye, Gregson volunteer and Associate of Lancaster University’s Regional Heritage Centre, Matt Cole will delve into the Gregson’s history. His talk will focus on the Gregson’s beginnings when it was surrounded by mills and mill workers’ houses. Matt will explore why the centre sprung up and how it has adapted to meet the changing needs of the world around it.

PRESENT: What has been happening? At our charity’s Annual General Meeting we will look back at what’s happened in the last year, how it has happened and why. We are a community owned and led organisation so everyone is invited. To most fully take part, please sign up to be a member, click here (this is now FREE and takes 2 minutes). Being a member means you’re entitled to speak, vote and elect new Trustees to help lead our charity.

This will be a chance to meet the new Trustees that our Board will be nominating including a new Chair as we say goodbye (and a HUGE thank you) to our existing Chair Joe Sumsion.

The AGM agenda will be sent out nearer the time. The Trustees will be nominating 4 new Trustees following a competitive recruitment round earlier this year, meaning if elected the Board will have reached its limit of 12 members. However, any member of the charity can stand for election at the AGM. If you would like to chat this through or apply, please request a Nomination Form from our Secretary Emma, e.rucastle@gregson.co.uk (note, it must be completed 14 days before the AGM.)

FUTURE: Thanks to the incredible community that surrounds us, the Gregson is in a stable position. We are now firmly looking to the future. What’s next for the Gregson? What have we got planned?  What do you want to see happen here? Charles Tyrer, our CEO will share our three year plan and invite you to get more involved.

It’s your centre – your views are what we need to keep growing and developing. After the event we hope you’ll join us in the bar for a drink!

Don’t forget to show your support for the Gregson and be able to fully participate in this event, sign up and become a member here.
