Women's Self Defence Class
Age Range: 15+
Ability Level: All abilities welcome
This completely free women’s self-defence course will give you the skills and confidence you need to learn effective self-defence. Kogen Ryu classes are designed to be fully accessible to all abilities and fitness levels, giving everyone the opportunity to learn an important skill to stay safe and secure.
Over 6 weeks, we will:
- Learn a variety of tried and tested techniques
- Discuss realistic approaches to self-defence
- Develop confidence and self-awareness
- Promote activity and continuous development
- Have fun!
All you need is clothing that is comfortable and easy to move around in, water, and a willingness to learn. Our instructors will do the rest, making sure the classes are tailored to your needs. This is an excellent opportunity to meet new people, get active, and learn a new, valuable skill!
Once the class is finished, why not stick around for a coffee and a chat? The instructors are friendly, approachable and experienced, and happy to talk about any aspect of the course – or just hang out! After the class you’ll move to the café to relax, refuel and get to know each other!

About Sarah:
This self-defence course is led by Sarah Wagstaffe from Kogen Ryu Martial Arts, partnered with the Eric Wright Trust. Kogen Ryu runs regular self-defence classes open to everyone in Lancaster and Morecambe every Saturday morning. Sarah is a 2nd dan black belt in Kogen Ryu and has also trained in kickboxing, BJJ and MMA.
