This is a unique opportunity to learn how to paint on glass, creating your own unique piece of stained glass.
You’ll be shown how to paint on the glass using a brush and a nib. Your glass will be fired overnight and the next day you’ll be shown how to add shading to your piece and how to achieve a scraffito effect. Your glass will be fired overnight again and will be ready to collect the following day.
Suitable for complete beginners and no need to worry if you think your artistic talents are rusty as patterns will be provided!

Sarah trained at Vetrate Artistiche Toscana in Siena 1994-1995 and had a stained glass studio in London for several years before setting up a business in Kendal. During this time, Sarah developed a specialist range of fused glass; Sarah Bibet Fused Glass, which sells online and to local shops. Sarah has been teaching her skills to classes for 30 years. Over the last few years she has delivered courses and workshops at the Gregson with great success and many returning customers.
Additional Access Information:
Please note whilst Easy Access Seats are available at most of our events, there is no space in the room at these workshops. Participants work from a table – sometimes sharing, sometimes alone. You are welcome to come and go from the space as you need.
This event will be lit by filament lights only – no LEDS in the room.
Sensory Advisory: soldering irons are used in the session to weld. Glass cutting equipment is also used. As a result the sessions can be quite noisy. There is a maximum of 12 participants in each class and they are often at capacity. Full safety briefings are provided by the tutor regarding using the tools.
Fancy brunch? Order food to eat in the room or join us in our award winning Community Cafe Bar for Brunch or Lunch after the session. Check out the menu, click here.
