Bellydance

22 November @ 11:00 am - 12:15 pm
Event Series (See All)

18+

What will the class entail?
A bit like a Zumba class, with follow along routines but gentler. Eclectic and inspirational music, mainly Egyptian Arabic pop and instrumental Oriental tracks with some North African fusion and Cairo indie bands for good measure. You will learn some basic Bellydance moves and stepping patterns and some easy combinations to draw them together.

Who is the class suitable for?
An open level class for adults, suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels and does not require experience but you should be in general good health. The nature of the class means you can do the class at a simpler level if you wish or practice a good workout as you pick up the moves. It is more important to be able to join in and have fun! If you have any concerns about whether you can participate, please feel free to speak to the facilitator Arlene ahead of the class.

What to wear?
Comfortable loose clothing that allows you to move and layers so you can be warm or cool as you get hot. Leggings, vest and T-shirt maybe with a warmer top and legwarmers are ideal. Feel free to wear a hip scarf – I shall have some spare to borrow during class if you wish. For shoes, I generally recommend Zumba shoes, split sole dance shoes or some form of jazz/ballet pump – whatever suits your feet. Trainers are possibly too stiff and bare foot is only an option if you know you can move in bare foot.

There will be multiple pop-up classes – Sundays, 11am-12.15pm:

30 August
25 October
1 November
22 November
29 November

Plus more in 2027 to be announced…

About the facilitator – Arlene Garrett

My name is Arlene Garrett, I have always loved dance and having discovered Egyptian Belly dance over 15 years ago I fell in love with this dance and it’s beautiful music. I study regularly in Cairo and UK to continue my learning and recently decided to start teaching what I love after completing my initial Teaching Bellydance Health & Safety Certification course with BellyDance Now.

I am based in Lancaster and am currently teaching these classes as Pop Up’s across the local area as I am keen to run a regular class if the interest is here.

My teaching style is a mix of learning practical technique and having fun so you can expect a bit of drill practice and a bit of silliness along the way.
